Rope quoits developed on ships – sailors used quoits made from rope and either attached a stake to a wall or used an upstanding part of the ship (such as the belaying pin) as a target. Emigrants from England who naturally travelled by sea, took the game of rope quoits to the British colonies where it is still played now – especially in Australia. The game of Deck Quoits also became very popular on cruise ships in the 1920s – and is this continues on cruises to this day.



This version has a single stake and base. It’s nicer not to walk backwards and forwards between each end so we also have available a set with two deck quoit bases.



The wooden quoits board is robustly constructed by a traditional English craftsman with a stake that can be unscrewed and removed for easy storage. The 6 quoits have a thin metal hoop which is hand-bound with natural rope and finished with different identifying coloured twine.



Our quoits game is based upon the original rope quoits game played on board ship in Victorian times. The rules give a genuine early nineteenth century version of the Deck Quoits. We also include a version of quoits based on the old original steel quoits – this is more fun and great for families!



A superbly made game which is great for taking to the park or the beach. Good entertainment for parties or just for playing in your back garden – or your cruise ship…
